Rebate programs

The main BC insulation rebates

There are a few pathways depending on your income, your building, and whether the project is residential or commercial. Here is how they break down.

Most homeowners

Home Renovation Rebate Program

Open to BC homeowners at any income level. Funded by BC Hydro and FortisBC together with the Province of BC, it covers insulation alongside upgrades like windows, doors, and heat pumps. Insulation rebates reach up to $5,500 across eligible areas.

Based on income

Income-Qualified Energy Savings Program

Built for eligible households and based on income, household size, and property value. Because the rebate is handled through your contractor, it can cover a large share of your upfront cost. You apply once, receive a code that is good for six months, and pay only the remaining balance.

Condos, apartments, co-ops

Stratas, townhomes & multi-unit buildings

Condos, apartments, and stratas may qualify through BC Hydro programs and the CleanBC multi-unit retrofit program, which also offers energy coaching for owners, strata councils, and co-op boards. We help identify the right pathway for the building.

Warehouses, offices, retail

Commercial & business

Commercial buildings may qualify through BC Hydro, FortisBC, or Better Buildings BC, plus equipment-specific incentives such as pipe and tank insulation. We help identify the right path during quoting. We will not promise a fixed amount until we confirm your project type.

Do I qualify?

Who is eligible for BC insulation rebates

Programs have a few common rules. We confirm all of this with you before any work begins.

  • Your home is a year-round primary residence and at least 12 months old.
  • A household member has a residential electricity account with BC Hydro, FortisBC, or a participating municipal utility.
  • The work is done by a licensed contractor with a GST number and a valid BC business licence. Self-installs do not qualify.
  • Renters can sometimes qualify with a consent form from the utility account holder.
  • Accounts held in a strata or landlord name follow their own program rules.

Insulation areas that qualify

Eligible insulation types include batt, loose fill, board, and spray foam.

  • Attics and cathedral ceilings
  • Exterior walls
  • Basement and crawlspace walls
  • Exposed floors and floors over crawlspaces

Note: new construction, additions, and some renovation work may not be eligible. We will let you know where your project stands when we quote it.

Two ways to save

Regular rebates vs income-qualified rebates

Both can put money back in your pocket. The difference is mostly in how and when you receive it.

Regular rebates

  • You pay for the work, then apply for the rebate.
  • Apply within six months of your invoice date.
  • The rebate comes back to you after approval.

Income-qualified rebates

  • You pre-register and receive a program code.
  • Your contractor handles the rebate side of the process.
  • You pay only the remaining balance, so it can feel like an instant discount.
Why it matters

Every eligible project comes with a rebate-ready invoice

For insulation, the invoice is the document programs care about most. We make sure yours includes the area insulated, the product used, how much was added, and paid invoice details. We also remind you of your deadline after we finish, so you never miss your window.

Apply within six months

Rebate applications are due within six months of your invoice date. Combining upgrades for a bonus gives you longer to finish the work, but the clock starts with your first invoice.

How Mission Insulation helps

We make rebates the easy part

Programs can be confusing. We handle the paperwork-heavy details so you can focus on a more comfortable, efficient property.

Check eligibility first

We confirm what you may qualify for before any work starts, so there are no surprises.

Recommend the best areas

We point you toward the insulation areas that give you the strongest comfort and rebate value.

Rebate-ready invoices

Every eligible project comes with an invoice that includes the details programs ask for: the area insulated, the product used, how much was added, and paid invoice details.

Look for bonuses

We watch for stackable opportunities, such as the FortisBC bonus for insulating two or more eligible areas, where available.

Deadline reminders

We remind you of your application deadline after we finish, so you do not miss your window.

Safety checks

We flag older-home hazards before disturbing insulation, keeping your project safe and compliant.

A quick note on older homes

Homes built before the 1990s may contain materials that need review before insulation is disturbed. If we spot suspected vermiculite, asbestos, mould, or pest contamination, we pause and guide you toward proper testing or removal before we continue. It keeps everyone safe and your project on the right side of WorkSafeBC rules.

Rebate FAQ

Common questions about BC insulation rebates

Can I get a rebate for attic insulation in BC?

Yes. Eligible BC homeowners can get attic insulation rebates up to $900, with the amount based on how much insulation is added.

Can I install insulation myself and still get the rebate?

No. Self-installations do not qualify. The work has to be done by an eligible, licensed contractor.

How long do I have to apply?

For the Home Renovation Rebate Program, you submit your application and documents within six months of your invoice date. If you are combining upgrades for a bonus, you have longer to complete them, but the clock still starts with your first invoice.

What documents do I need?

For insulation, the invoice is the key document. It should show the area insulated, the type of insulation, how much was added, and the paid invoice details. We prepare this for you.

Do renters qualify?

Sometimes. Renters usually need a consent form from the utility account holder or landlord, depending on the program.

Can I get income-qualified rebates?

Possibly. The Energy Savings Program is based on household income, household size, and assessed property value. We can help you find out before you book.

Can I combine rebates?

Sometimes, but not always. For example, the regular Home Renovation Rebate cannot be combined with the income-qualified program. We help you choose the pathway that gives you the most.

What about the federal Canada Greener Homes Loan?

It is closed to new applications. We focus on the current BC Hydro, FortisBC, CleanBC, and Better Homes BC rebate pathways.
